Step by step of creating cups
The Process of Making Pottery
- Clay selection
- Wedging the clay: I prepare the clay for pottery making.
- Depending on what I plan to create, I cut and weigh the clay. For a regular
- single cup, I use between 300 to 500g of clay.
- Throwing and centering the clay on the wheel
- Hand-building of the cup on the wheel
- Remove the cup from the wheel
- Air-dry the cup. Depending on the climate and humidity, the cup will dry out between a couple of hours to several weeks.
- Trimming and decorating the cup.
- First firing between 900 to 1000 °C
- Cooling down
- Removing dust and sharp edges
- Glazing
- Last firing above 1200 °C
