POTTERY MAKING

Step by step of creating cups

The Process of Making Pottery

  • Clay selection
  • Wedging the clay: I prepare the clay for pottery making.
  • Depending on what I plan to create, I cut and weigh the clay. For a regular
  • single cup, I use between 300 to 500g of clay.
  • Throwing and centering the clay on the wheel
  • Hand-building of the cup on the wheel
  • Remove the cup from the wheel
  • Air-dry the cup. Depending on the climate and humidity, the cup will dry out between a couple of hours to several weeks.
  • Trimming and decorating the cup.
  • First firing between 900 to 1000 °C
  • Cooling down
  • Removing dust and sharp edges
  • Glazing
  • Last firing above 1200 °C
